About Shenandoah Stables
Experience the joy of horsemanship!
Shenandoah Stables is a privately owned and operated horse barn in the beautiful and scenic Shenandoah valley, offering lessons and summer camps in both English and Western riding. Our horses are well trained and suited for beginner riders as well as those with more experience, and we provide comprehensive instruction on proper handling, safety, and technique from the ground up! We believe in the importance of learning both riding and what it entails to reach that point, which is why we take an integral approach to each lesson and attend to the readiness of the student.
Shenandoah Stables was started by owner Claudia Uhlenkott in 2021, as a way to expand her growing lesson program, and since has allowed many to experience the gift of horses. This year, Claudia has teamed up with Teresa Janaro to continue to provide summer camps to our community, and the two are thrilled to welcome students new and old in 2024. Claudia and Teresa, who previously ran summer camps in 2018, are childhood friends and are excited to work together again this summer to deliver the best experience for their students!

Teresa has been in the equine industry in a variety of ways since a young age. As a child, she found her way into horses by working at multiple barns in exchange for riding. She eventually began teaching lessons both with her own horses in her small program as well as at other barns, and later moved into training. Teresa has worked with a variety of breeds, from mustangs, to thoroughbreds, to cow-bred quarter horses, and is currently a private trainer providing onsite training for starting, behavioral issues, tune ups, and exercise riding. Teresa's preferred disciplines are western pleasure and versatility ranch, but she loves switching gears to run the barrel pattern or hop some jumps as well. Teresa is 21, living in Rappahannock county, and working towards her B.A. in history and Her B.S. in nursing.

Claudia has always been passionate about horses and assisting people with their medical needs. She is working towards becoming a certified USEF Para-Dressage coach and completing a BS in nursing. Claudia has been around horses since a young age, growing up on her family's ranch in Front Royal. She started competing in various Western disciplines through 4-H and has moved more towards Jumpers, Dressage, and cross country in more recent years. Claudia has taught lessons through her own program, assisted in therapeutic riding and para-dressage programs, and trained several of her own horses over the years. She is thrilled to see how far Shenandoah Stables has come and is excited to see its future.
